"EVERYONE NEEDS A BASS PLAYER"

Musician, teacher, master of thankless tasks.

Ask multi-instrumentalist Brian Anderson what he loves most about performing, and — as an upright bassist, guitarist, and vocalist — he’ll tell you that it’s about the energy of music, the call and response of an engaged crowd, and the joy of playing rhythm with a band that locks in.

Based in Bridgeport, CT, Brian has performed on stages across the country and around the world, providing steady rhythm in bands ranging from Vaudevillian folk quartet Caravan of Thieves, to alt-rock outfit St. Bernadette, to jam-band Raisinhill.

Currently, you can find him performing in Old Bob, a Bob Dylan tribute that covers the artist’s later works. Old Bob is also well-known for their Bob Dylan Birthday Bashes, during which they've played chronological set lists of songs equal to his age; it started with 75 songs on Dylan’s 75th birthday in 2016 and has grown annually since then. You can also find Brian performing bass/vocals with Ween cover-band Awesome Sound Society, and as an acoustic guitarist/singer, solo and in duos.

Over the years Brian’s shared a stage with top acts such as Glen Campbell, Emmilou Harris, Tony Trischka, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, the Tom Tom Club, and many others. He’s performed at top festivals like 4 Corners Folk Fest, Ann Arbor Folk Fest, Gathering of the Vibes, the Clearwater Festival, and more, in addition to his local Connecticut venues like Fairfield Theater Company, BRYAC, Walrus Alley, and a monthly residency at Nod Hill Brewery.

He offers music lessons in Connecticut or online for bass, guitar, piano, drums, and vocals, to all levels and ages. With a degree in Studio Music Jazz Performance (Univ. of Miami) and more than 20 years of teaching experience, he makes lessons fun through a simple and practical method that helps students learn how to play while accomplishing their own music goals.

Whether playing a brewery, music hall, festival stage, or private party, Brian’s ability to lay down a rhythm sets the tone for a band’s unique sound and adds an uplifting energy that elevates the experience for fellow players and listeners alike.
